Eighth grade Rams lose on the gridiron to R-S

The Greene County Ram eighth grade football team lost 34-28 to Roland-Story in the closing minutes of a fifth quarter game Sept. 22 in Story City.

According to coach Tanner Lawton, the Rams fought back from a 22-8 half-time deficit to make the game close. With minutes left in the game Cam Miller and Kaleb Hoyle burst through the Roland-Story offensive line and forced a fumble, only to have it bounce back into the Roland-Story quarterback’s hands.  “It was a great team effort from all of the athletes as they stood up to the challenge and fought back and almost completed the comeback.  Both coach Beeler and I were very proud of the kids’ effort this week and look forward to the rest of the season,” Lawton said.

With the loss the Rams move to 1-2 with three games left in the season.  The Rams will be on the road again with North Polk in Alleman on Sept 29.

Quarterback Conner Whipple was 7 of 12 passing for 185 yards and one touchdown and carried the ball four times for 6 yards and one touchdown. Cody Maston was two of four passing for 35 yards and one touchdown and carried the ball twice for four yards.

Zachh Goff and four receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Peyton Kinsey had two receptions for 42 yards and one touchdown.

Jaxon Warnke rushed for 94 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown.

Makayla Kafer had five carries for 18 yards, Cam Miller had three carries for 10 yards, Jackson Gerdes had two carries for 26 yards, Ethan Long had one carry for five yards, Brady Stauffer had two carries for six yards and one reception for three yards, and Tanner Allen had two receptions for 72 yards.

Defennsively, Warnke had seven tackles, Kafer had six, Connor Brus and Miller had five tackles each, Long and Hoyle had four each, Trent Custer and three tackles and a sack, Goff had three tackles and one interception, Avery Bardole had three tackles, Allen, Cody Maston, Whipple, Stauffer and Kinsey had two tackles each and and Kadrick Kinne had one tackle.
